The sleek portable player--which comes with a complete car kit for listening in your vehicle--is ideal for folks who already have extensive music libraries, as it comes with bundled SonicStage software to burn and play back everything from MP3 to ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus tracks. With ATRAC3plus, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting you select the right balance between fidelity and storage space. A single CD-R/RW disc can store up to 490 ATRAC3plus selections when burned at 48 kbps, so you can store a soundtrack for a cross-country road trip on only one CD-R. And if you're just starting your digital music collection, don't fret, as the Walkman is compatible with Sony's Connect Music store and its vast online music archives. The D-NE336CK offers a wide array of playback modes (18 in all), ranging from repeat and random play to track programming to bookmarking.
